Felt like complete dog shit today. Not sick, just zero energy or motivation. Not sure if it had to do with the gym atmosphere today, the fact that I ate zero carbs this morning or what, but I didn't have it. Luckily I didn't miss any reps on the smolov sets, but I sure was trudging through them. The squat...I almost didn't squat at all, but I forced myself and managed to eek out 395. Even though it felt like crap I'm glad I did it. It's definitely more of a mental fatigue than a physical one. I felt strong, but I felt out of it. As weird as it sounds I think I'm going to try to reign in the external motivators a little bit. Gonna cut out the fast heavy music, no more red bulls, work on staying calm etc. Taking a few days off this weekend so when I get back at it I think everything will be back in place.
Also I don't care what people think about DB flyes. When I do them heavy it forces me to maintain a LOT of tension in my chest and upper body in general. I get a much bigger tactile cue to stay tight and squeeze with the chest than I do even in the bench. Do I think strength in the fly will translate heavily to the bench? Are the movement patterns close enough? I don't care. It teaches me to stay tight and to strain, which I think is useful.
